Orthodox

What is lifted up here is human nature. The Son never lacked glory as God, so nothing could be added to him on that side. The flesh he took is what gets raised, and since that flesh is ours, our whole nature has been carried into God's own life.

The name handed over is the divine Name itself, the one kept for God alone, now belonging to a man who bled. The path to it ran through the self emptying that came first, so humility is the road God actually uses when he raises anyone.

Live Philippians 2:9 today

  1. Take the lowest job in the room today without being asked: clear the plates, take out the trash, do the setup nobody wants. Do it quietly.
  2. Give the credit away. When someone praises something you helped with, name the other person who actually made it work.
  3. When you get overlooked in a meeting or passed over for something you earned, let it sit instead of making the case. That is the harder and better hour.

What would I do today if the lowest place were the one I was aiming for?

The same truth in other traditions

Taoism · Tao Te Ching

The low place is the honored one: valleys receive the streams and the sea becomes great by lying beneath every river. Height arrives by way of descent, never around it.

Stoicism · Marcus Aurelius

As emperor he kept reminding himself he was flesh like anyone else, and that the office meant nothing without that. The honest look downward was the thing that kept him usable.

Buddhism

The lotus is honored for flowering out of mud, not despite it. The common material is exactly what gets lifted, and nothing else was ever needed.
