Proverbs 10:22 Meaning Yahweh’s Blessing Brings Wealth

Yahweh’s blessing brings wealth, and he adds no trouble to it.

What does Proverbs 10:22 mean?

What love gives arrives whole, with nothing hidden inside it that will later ask to be paid for. The ego knows only the other kind of gift, the one that comes braided with a debt, so that every gain carries the quiet dread of its loss and every pleasure a splinter of guilt.

What love gives arrives whole, with nothing hidden inside it that will later ask to be paid for. The ego knows only the other kind of gift, the one that comes braided with a debt, so that every gain carries the quiet dread of its loss and every pleasure a splinter of guilt. A mind taught by fear cannot receive without bracing for the bill. But abundance seen truly is simply the memory of what the mind already is, and remembering costs the mind nothing, because nothing was ever taken from it. The gift with no sorrow attached is the one that was never a purchase at all.

So the sorrow is not subtracted from the blessing; it was never part of it. It belonged to the fearful teacher who cannot imagine a giver who does not want something back.

Blessing of the LORD: the flow of what the mind is when it stops guarding itself, the inheritance that was never earned and so can never be spent.

Live Proverbs 10:22 today

  1. When something good lands today, a compliment, a free afternoon, an unexpectedly easy commute, let yourself simply have it without the reflex of waiting for the catch.
  2. Do one thing for someone and keep no mental record of it, no later mention, no quiet tally of what you are owed. If you catch yourself scoring it, drop the score.
  3. If you are given help you did not earn and feel the itch to repay it immediately so the ledger closes, try saying thank you and leaving it open.

Which good thing in my life am I still bracing to pay for?

Krishna teaches action offered freely, without clutching at the fruit of it, because the grasping is what turns a good act into anxiety. Give the deed, release the result.

Stoicism · Seneca

Seneca wrote that a gift given with an invoice attached is not a gift but a loan, and that the kindness is spoiled the moment the giver starts keeping accounts. A true favor is forgotten by the one who gave it.

Taoism · Zhuangzi

Zhuangzi describes the person who is at ease because nothing has been taken from them and nothing can be. What you already are is not something you can lose in a transaction.
