Proverbs 11:1 Meaning A False Balance Is an Abomination

A false balance is an abomination to Yahweh, but accurate weights are his delight.

What does Proverbs 11:1 mean?

What weighs and measures another is the ego, forever setting one brother above or below the self so the balance will tip its way. A false balance is judgment itself, the wish to find the other wanting so the self may seem the more.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

What weighs and measures another is the ego, forever setting one brother above or below the self so the balance will tip its way. A false balance is judgment itself, the wish to find the other wanting so the self may seem the more. It feels like fairness, yet it is only the old fear dressed as care.

The just weight is the single honest measure, which sees every mind as equal in innocence and refuses to make one guilty so another can be safe. That even seeing is what love restores.

False balance: the ego's habit of judgment, weighing a brother so the self comes out ahead Just weight: the honest measure of love, which sees every mind as equally innocent

ESOTERIC

Esoteric

The inner faculty that weighs spirit against flesh must measure true, and a person whose judgment is rigged toward the lower side has corrupted the very instrument of discernment. The balance is the discriminating power that holds the 2 natures against each other and reads which way a thing tends, and when it is falsified, the weighing of every choice tilts toward appetite and calls it truth.

A just weight is the honest measure that gives spirit and matter their real value without the scale being loaded. What delights the higher self is a discernment that reports accurately, neither flattering the flesh nor cheating the soul. The whole inner life depends on this scale reading straight, because a person who mismeasures the worth of things will spend their days trading the greater for the less and never know they were robbed.

Live Proverbs 11:1 today

  1. Catch yourself scrolling and measuring your life against a stranger's. Put the phone down, not out of guilt, just because the scale was never real.
  2. Spend five minutes with someone without quietly scoring them. No ranking of their choices, their house, their parenting, just them in front of you.
  3. In a meeting where someone takes credit that was yours, do not reach for the correction that makes them smaller. Say what you did, plainly, and leave them whole.

Who have I been keeping slightly below me, and what do I think I gain by it?

The moment you split the world into better and worse you have made both. The sage lets things be as they are and stops ranking them.
