Proverbs 14:6 Meaning A Scoffer Seeks Wisdom

A scoffer seeks wisdom, and doesn’t find it, but knowledge comes easily to a discerning person.

What does Proverbs 14:6 mean?

Truth is not withheld from anyone; it is only hidden by the eyes that come to it already sure of what is wrong. A mind set on scorn arrives to accuse, and accusation cannot see, for it is looking for a fault to confirm rather than a light to receive.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

Truth is not withheld from anyone; it is only hidden by the eyes that come to it already sure of what is wrong. A mind set on scorn arrives to accuse, and accusation cannot see, for it is looking for a fault to confirm rather than a light to receive. So it searches and comes away empty, not because the light was far off but because it was never willing to be shown.

The gentler mind asks nothing but to understand, and understanding opens the moment defense is laid down. What seemed hard was only the effort of holding a grievance. Let the wish to condemn go, and what you were seeking was there the whole time, plain and near.

Two people can study the same thing for years and come out holding opposite amounts, because of what each was asking.

A question carries a posture inside it, and the posture decides what the mind will accept as an answer. Scorn asks in order to close a case, so every piece of wisdom that comes near gets tested for weakness and discarded when it survives.

The discerning man asks to be changed, which lowers the cost of every answer; knowledge that once had to fight its way in now walks in. Nobody withheld wisdom from the scoffer. He was screening it out at the door, and he will die certain the subject was empty.

Live Proverbs 14:6 today

  1. Before you search something today, sit for a moment and admit what you are secretly hoping the answer will be. Then read as if you did not already know.
  2. In a conversation with someone you disagree with, ask one real question and let their whole answer finish before you form a response. Try, "what makes you see it that way?"
  3. When feedback comes at work and your chest tightens, say "tell me more" instead of your defense. The defense will still be available in five minutes if you want it.

Where am I looking for proof I am right instead of looking for what is true?

The one who knows does not need to argue, and the one who argues is not after knowing. Insistence closes the very door you are knocking on.
