Proverbs 15:26 Meaning Yahweh Detests the Thoughts of the Wicked

Yahweh detests the thoughts of the wicked, but the thoughts of the pure are pleasing.

What does Proverbs 15:26 mean?

The only thing ever truly at stake is what the mind chooses to think, for thought is where the two teachers meet and one is chosen. Thoughts of attack and judgment are not sins that offend a distant God; they are simply foreign to love, unlike anything real, and so they cannot live in the same place where peace is known.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

The only thing ever truly at stake is what the mind chooses to think, for thought is where the two teachers meet and one is chosen. Thoughts of attack and judgment are not sins that offend a distant God; they are simply foreign to love, unlike anything real, and so they cannot live in the same place where peace is known. Love does not condemn them. It only cannot recognize them as its own.

A mind cleansed of the wish to accuse finds that gentleness comes naturally, and what it thinks becomes what it would gladly say aloud. Purity is not moral achievement but the mind restored to its right function, thinking with love and therefore speaking in a way that heals rather than harms.

Live Proverbs 15:26 today

  1. Catch one accusing thought today, about yourself or someone else, and simply let it go unfinished. You do not have to follow every thought to its end.
  2. Before you complain about someone to a third person, ask whether you would say it with them standing there. If not, let it drop.
  3. When you are tired and irritable at the end of the day, keep the running commentary out of your head about the slow driver, the loud coworker, the person ahead in line. Your peace is what is actually at stake.

What do I think about people that I would never be willing to say out loud?

Buddhism · Dhammapada

All of it starts with thought. What you think repeatedly is what you become, and nobody else is holding the pen.

Stoicism · Marcus Aurelius

Your mind takes the color of the thoughts you let live there. Guard that, and the rest follows.

Tao Te Ching

Gentle words come from a mind that has stopped keeping score. Where there is no grievance stored, there is nothing harsh to say.
