Proverbs 16:22 Meaning Understanding Is a Fountain of Life

Understanding is a fountain of life to one who has it, but the punishment of fools is their folly.

What does Proverbs 16:22 mean?

Understanding is a source within the mind that never runs dry, because it draws on love, which was given whole and cannot be spent. A mind that has found this well needs nothing from the world to feel alive.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

Understanding is a source within the mind that never runs dry, because it draws on love, which was given whole and cannot be spent. A mind that has found this well needs nothing from the world to feel alive. The ego's teaching only circles back on itself, drawing from lack and returning lack, because it begins in the belief that something is missing and can only instruct the mind to keep searching outside for what is already within.

The difference is simply where the mind drinks: from the living spring it carries, or from a dry cistern the ego keeps promising will fill.

Wellspring: the source of love the mind holds within itself, a supply that never empties because it was given whole and can never be spent

Live Proverbs 16:22 today

  1. Before you reach for your phone out of habit today, sit with the blank moment for ten seconds. See whether anything was actually missing.
  2. Ask someone close to you a real question and listen all the way through without planning what you will say. Let the conversation feed you instead of the feed.
  3. When the day gets thin and you feel the pull to buy, scroll, or snack your way out of it, name the feeling first. Usually it is tiredness or loneliness wearing the costume of wanting something.

What have you been going out to look for that was already here this morning?

Knowing others is clever, but knowing yourself is real clarity. Whoever knows they already have enough is rich, no matter what arrives.

Buddhism · the second noble truth

The thirst that keeps reaching for the next thing is what makes the ache, not the lack of the thing. When the reaching stops, so does the ache.

What you are looking for everywhere is the one looking. The search goes outward for something that was never away from you.
