Proverbs 16:24 Meaning Pleasant Words Are a Honeycomb

Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.

What does Proverbs 16:24 mean?

Gentle speech is a small miracle, a shift in the one who offers it that reaches the one who hears without asking anything of the body. The ego believes that healing must be done to flesh, that the bones are mended by the world, but every wound is first a thought of attack, and what truly heals is the withdrawal of that thought.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

Gentle speech is a small miracle, a shift in the one who offers it that reaches the one who hears without asking anything of the body. The ego believes that healing must be done to flesh, that the bones are mended by the world, but every wound is first a thought of attack, and what truly heals is the withdrawal of that thought. Kind words carry the mind's forgiveness outward, and the one who receives them feels the guilt he was braced against simply fail to arrive.

So the sweetness that seems to comfort the body is really the mind meeting another without accusation, and finding both of them whole.

Honeycomb: the gentleness a healed mind extends to another, a sweetness that carries forgiveness rather than the wish to wound Bones: the body the ego believes must be mended from outside, the flesh the mind mistakes for the true site of the wound

CYBERNETICS

Cybernetics

Kind words work on a person the way honey does, sweet going in and healing after. The self-image feeds on the words spoken to it, and gentle ones reach past the mind and into the body itself. Sourness would tighten a man. Sweetness loosens him.

The inner voice a person uses on himself counts most of all. When that voice turns pleasant, the whole frame answers with health down to the bone. A steady diet of encouragement feeds more than the mood. The body can feel it, and a person built up this way carries himself lighter.

SELF-HELP

Self-Help

A person's words are an ingredient in whatever state the listener walks away in, not a report on it.

Words get metabolized. A sentence spoken kindly alters another person's breathing and posture inside a second, the altered body produces a different emotion, and that emotion picks the next action, which is how a remark at breakfast is still paying out at four in the afternoon.

The same mechanism runs inward. The vocabulary someone uses on themselves, devastated against inconvenienced, furious against irritated, sets the size of what they are about to feel, and the body obeys the size it was given. Sweetness of this kind is chosen and aimed, and choosing it costs a person the luxury of speaking carelessly and calling it honesty.

Live Proverbs 16:24 today

  1. Send one message today with no purpose except warmth. No question, no ask, just the thing you have been meaning to say about them.
  2. When you pay for coffee or pass someone at reception, say something real to them instead of the script. One sentence that shows you saw a person.
  3. If someone comes in braced for a fight, surprise them with softness. You can hold your position and still take the edge off your voice.

Who is waiting for a hard word from you that will never come?

Kind words are the garden the heart grows in. Where they are missing, something in the other person stays braced for the blow.
