Proverbs 18:20 Meaning A Man’s Stomach Is Filled

A man’s stomach is filled with the fruit of his mouth. With the harvest of his lips he is satisfied.

What does Proverbs 18:20 mean?

A mind is fed by what it chooses to speak, because speech is thought made visible, and every word carries the teacher that sent it. Fill the mouth with judgment and the self is filled with the barrenness of judgment; fill it with forgiveness and the same self is nourished, for what a mind offers a brother it receives in the offering.

The satisfaction is never really about words at all. It is the quiet truth that the mind lives inside its own perception, so what it extends outward is the very thing it will taste within. Speak from love, and love is the meal.

Belly: the inner self that is fed by its own perception, filled by whatever teacher the mind has chosen to speak from Fruit of his mouth: thought made visible in speech, the mind's chosen perception returning to nourish or starve the one who spoke it

  1. Watch one sentence you are about to say or type today and ask who it is coming from, the part of you that wants to be right or the part that wants things to be well. Send the second version.
  2. With one person, say the generous thing out loud instead of keeping it in your head. Tell your coworker the thing went well, text your brother that you were thinking of him, and feel what it does to you to have said it.
  3. When someone cuts you off in traffic or a group chat goes sour, skip the comeback you already have ready. Let the silence sit there, and see that nothing bad happens to you for having let it go.

What have I been feeding myself with the things I said today?
