Proverbs 19:18 Meaning Discipline Your Son
Discipline your son, for there is hope; don’t be a willing party to his death.

Proverbs 19:18 · World English Bible
Discipline your son, for there is hope; don’t be a willing party to his death.
The son to be corrected is the mind's own mistaken thinking, the belief in separation that must be gently set right while the will to heal is still awake. To chasten it is not to punish but to refuse to indulge the ego's protests, the crying that begs the mind to keep its grievances and call correction cruelty.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY
The son to be corrected is the mind's own mistaken thinking, the belief in separation that must be gently set right while the will to heal is still awake. To chasten it is not to punish but to refuse to indulge the ego's protests, the crying that begs the mind to keep its grievances and call correction cruelty. Love does not abandon the thought. It simply will not spare the error that keeps the thought in pain.
Discipline of this kind is only steadiness, a mind declining to be talked out of its own peace by the fear that pleads to stay.
Son: the mind's mistaken thought, the belief in separation that a loving correction sets gently right
Christian Psychology lens
What part of me pleads hardest when I try to put it right, and what is it so afraid of losing?
Right effort is not force, it is refusing to feed the thoughts that make you suffer. You stop arguing with them and stop serving them dinner.
Habits are broken by not performing them, once and then again. Each time you decline, the pull gets a little weaker.
Training is not punishment, it is steadiness. You sit still while the mind protests, and the protest is not an emergency.
