Proverbs 21:14 Meaning A Gift in Secret Pacifies Anger

A gift in secret pacifies anger, and a bribe in the cloak, strong wrath.

What does Proverbs 21:14 mean?

Anger is never met by argument, for it is not reasoning that made it. It is guilt looking outward for a place to land, and it quiets only when something is given without the mind demanding to be seen giving it.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

Anger is never met by argument, for it is not reasoning that made it. It is guilt looking outward for a place to land, and it quiets only when something is given without the mind demanding to be seen giving it. The gift offered in secret is love that wants no credit and asks nothing in return, and because it makes no claim, the other has nothing to defend against. Wrath softens because the case it was building has lost its opponent. What was set to attack finds only innocence held out to it, and the whole quarrel it prepared for is simply not there.

The quiet gift is the miracle, given so freely that the giver forgets it was given.

Gift in secret: love offered without wish for reward or witness, the extension of the mind that heals because it asks for nothing back Bosom: the inner place where the gift is received, the hidden ground of the mind where wrath is undone before it can be spoken

Live Proverbs 21:14 today

  1. Do one small useful thing today that nobody will trace back to you: refill the coffee, clear the shared folder, fix the typo in someone's doc without mentioning it.
  2. When a family member or friend is irritable, skip the explanation of why they are wrong and just hand them something they need, a glass of water, a seat, a few quiet minutes.
  3. In a tense group chat or meeting, resist the reply you have already drafted in your head and instead say something generous about the person you disagree with.

What could I give today that would be ruined if anyone knew I gave it?
