Proverbs 21:16 Meaning The Man Who Wanders Out

The man who wanders out of the way of understanding shall rest in the assembly of the departed spirits.

What does Proverbs 21:16 mean?

To wander from understanding is not to travel anywhere, for the mind moves nowhere when it forgets what it is. It simply turns from the one clear road, which is the recognition that it and its brother share a single Self, and steps instead into the belief in separation.

To wander from understanding is not to travel anywhere, for the mind moves nowhere when it forgets what it is. It simply turns from the one clear road, which is the recognition that it and its brother share a single Self, and steps instead into the belief in separation. That belief is the only wilderness there is. A mind that lives by division has joined a company that only seems alive, a gathering of images that eat and speak and quarrel yet know nothing of themselves.

This is not punishment sent from outside. It is what the sleeping mind chooses when it prefers its own story to the truth, and it lasts exactly as long as the choice is kept.

The man that wandereth: the mind that has turned from its Self and taken the belief in separation for a home Congregation of the dead: the company of thoughts that seem to live but know no life, the ego's world of forms mistaking motion for being

Live Proverbs 21:16 today

  1. Before the first scroll of the day, sit for one minute without reaching for anything and let yourself be here instead of somewhere else.
  2. Look at one person today, a cashier, a coworker, your kid, long enough to remember they have a whole inner life as real as yours.
  3. When the day turns busy and you feel yourself moving fast and feeling nothing, stop, breathe once, and come back to the room you are actually in.

How much of today have I spent somewhere other than where my body is?
