Proverbs 21:6 Meaning Getting Treasures by a Lying Tongue Is

Getting treasures by a lying tongue is a fleeting vapor for those who seek death.

What does Proverbs 21:6 mean?

The ego builds its whole fortune on a single lie, that the self is separate and must secure itself by getting. Whatever the mind gathers on that false ground is weightless, blown back and forth because it rests on nothing real, and the pursuit of it is a pursuit of death, since separation is the one thought that ends in the shadow the ego calls the grave.

The treasure keeps slipping because it was never there.

A mind that stops speaking the lie has nothing left to chase, and it finds that the only wealth is the peace it never had to earn.

Treasures: what the ego accumulates to prove the separate self is safe, the phantom riches that scatter because they are built on the lie of scarcity A lying tongue: the ego's voice within the mind, the whisper that separation is true and must be defended by getting

CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY

Clinical Psychology

Wealth built on deception has no floor beneath it. The man who lies his way to fortune must keep lying to hold it. Each falsehood needs another, until he lives inside a structure that shifts under him and can never rest. He is rich and terrified at once.

Such a person is not chasing life at all, whatever he tells himself. He has aligned with dissolution, choosing the appearance of gain over the substance that endures. What you take through lies you can never own. It scatters the moment the next disclosed fact blows through like wind.

BUDDHISM

Buddhism

Musāvāda: False speech

The lying tongue is the broken word itself, the getting of treasure by saying flatly what is not so. Speech bent for gain is the first crack in the wall, the small deed that poisons the coin before it is ever spent. A well is sweetened at the mouth for show while the water is fouled down at its hidden source.

Micchā-ājīva: Wrong livelihood

Gathering treasures by a lie is earning a daily living off harm, a trade that feeds on the trust of other people. Livelihood built on deceit is the wrong road no matter how heavy the purse grows along it. Bread baked from stolen grain never once sits easy in the stomach that swallows it.

Lobha: Greed

Underneath the lying tongue burns the wanting that keeps saying more, get it, reach it by whatever word works. Greed is the grasping that will gladly bend the truth as far as it must to close on the treasure. A hand grows so hungry to grip the gold that it will tell any lie for the chance to touch it.

Anicca: Impermanence

The treasure so gotten is a vanity tossed to and fro, a vapor with no weight in it to settle and stay. Whatever the lie buys will not hold still or hold long, blown about like a puff of breath on a cold morning. Smoke gripped tight in the fist is already gone the very moment the fingers open.

Kamma: Action and its fruit

Tossed to and fro of them that seek death shows the deed curving back around onto the one who did it. The lie chases a prize and walks the liar straight toward his own undoing, the fruit ripening true from its seed. Throw a heavy stone straight up overhead and then stand perfectly still where it must come down.

Live Proverbs 21:6 today

  1. Take one small thing you have been shading in your own favor, a slightly padded number, a story about yourself you have polished, and quietly straighten it out. You will feel lighter before anyone else even knows.
  2. Tell one person today something true that makes you look a bit smaller than you would like. Watch how little you actually lose, and how much closer you suddenly are.
  3. In the negotiation or the sales call or the raise conversation, say what is so instead of what wins. If a thing only comes to you through a bent story, it was never going to stay.

What am I chasing that I would stop wanting the moment I told the truth about it?

The more you pile up, the more there is to lose, and the heavier the fear of losing it. Knowing when you have enough is the one wealth nobody can take.

What is gathered by crooked means scatters like sand. Craving promises to end itself with one more handful and never does.

You go out searching the world for a treasure that was waiting in your own house. The search itself was the thing keeping you from it.
