Proverbs 22:22 · World English Bible
Don’t exploit the poor, because he is poor; and don’t crush the needy in court;
To strike at the one who is already weak is the ego's favorite bargain: it seeks to feel strong by making another smaller, mistaking attack for gain. But the poor and the afflicted are figures of the mind's own sense of lack, and to oppress them is to war against a part of oneself.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY
To strike at the one who is already weak is the ego's favorite bargain: it seeks to feel strong by making another smaller, mistaking attack for gain. But the poor and the afflicted are figures of the mind's own sense of lack, and to oppress them is to war against a part of oneself. Every judgment passed at the gate is a decision the mind makes about its own guilt, thrown outward onto a convenient face.
Where the mind sits to weigh and condemn, it is really deciding what to do with the weakness it fears in itself. Love does not exploit the vulnerable, for it sees no one as separate to be used; it recognizes in the afflicted the same innocence it seeks for itself, and defends rather than devours.
The poor: the seemingly powerless part of the mind, its own sense of lack made into someone to be taken from The afflicted: the wounded, guilty self the mind projects onto another so it may attack without seeing its own face Gate: the threshold where the mind sits in judgment, the place decisions are made about what to condemn and what to spare
Christian Psychology lens
Who did I quietly decide was fair game today, and what was I trying to feel strong about?
The great river stays low and so receives everything. Real strength has no need to make anything beneath it smaller.
Goodwill is extended to the weak and the wounded exactly as it is extended to oneself, because the line between them was never real.
When you are tempted to despise someone's weakness, remember you share the same nature. To injure another is to damage your own reason, and that is the only harm you truly suffer.
