Proverbs 23:14 Meaning Punish Him with the Rod
Punish him with the rod, and save his soul from Sheol.

Proverbs 23:14 · World English Bible
Punish him with the rod, and save his soul from Sheol.
The rod that seems to strike is not cruelty but correction, and the one it falls upon is the frightened part of a mind that has learned to attack itself. What the ego calls discipline is really the willingness to let a false belief be firmly set aside, so the thought of separation is not indulged but gently ended before it can harden into a private torment.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY
The rod that seems to strike is not cruelty but correction, and the one it falls upon is the frightened part of a mind that has learned to attack itself. What the ego calls discipline is really the willingness to let a false belief be firmly set aside, so the thought of separation is not indulged but gently ended before it can harden into a private torment.
Hell is no place waiting below; it is the state a mind makes when it holds its own guilt as real. To be delivered from it is simply to let that guilt be corrected, and a mind that agrees to this finds it was never in danger at all.
Rod: the steady correction love applies to a mistaken thought, the firmness that refuses to let fear be treated as truth Son: the frightened part of the mind still learning to lay down its belief in separation, the self that can be lifted out of its own torment

What would today feel like if the voice that scolds you had no authority at all?
A teacher's sharp word is not punishment but a way of cutting a student loose from a thought they were strangling themselves with. The firmness is the kindness.
The mind untrained wounds itself worse than any enemy could, and the mind trained becomes its own best friend. The suffering was never coming from outside.
We are not hurt by events but by the opinions we hold about them, so correcting the opinion ends the torment at its source. The jail was built out of a judgment.
