for as he thinks about the cost, so he is. “Eat and drink!” he says to you, but his heart is not with you.
A being is what it holds in the depth of the mind, not what it arranges on the surface, so the true offering is always the thought beneath the word. CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY
A being is what it holds in the depth of the mind, not what it arranges on the surface, so the true offering is always the thought beneath the word. Where the inner conviction is fear, no gracious speech can make the gift a loving one, and the split between the smiling mouth and the withholding heart is the ego divided against itself.
A mind cannot give what it does not believe it has. This is no cause to condemn the one who is divided, for that division is his very call for healing. To look past the words to the frightened thought, and answer only that, is to offer the wholeness he has forgotten in himself.
Heart: the deep place of the mind where belief actually lives, the ground from which a person truly gives or withholds

EGO & BEING
What moves quietly beneath a person is what they truly are, not the words offered on the surface. A man may speak kindness while his inner state is cold, and that hidden state is the real message, felt long before it is understood.
This is why watching your own thinking matters more than watching your speech. The mind you inhabit in secret becomes the atmosphere others breathe around you. When the words and the inner life do not match, people sense the gap, because presence reads presence far below the level of language.

MANIFESTATION
The heart is not the organ in your chest but the place where you accept a thing as settled and felt, and whatever you accept there you become. A man is not what he says he is, nor what he wishes he were, but what he inwardly assumes and lives from. That is why the mouth can offer you food while the man himself withholds it. His welcome sounds warm, yet inside he is somewhere else, and the inner posture, not the courteous word, is the one that shapes what follows.
So the self a person carries is decided below the surface, in the quiet agreement he keeps with himself when no one is listening. What he entertains there hardens into fact. A word spoken over an empty feeling changes nothing; the feeling held in secret is what he ends up living.

PSYCHOANALYSIS
A man's true nature is not in his polite words but in what moves quietly beneath them. He offers you food with his mouth while his real feeling stays cold and turned away. His outer show and his inner state do not match.
We are always more than the face we present. What a person carries in the depths, his actual wishes and reservations, is what he really is, no matter how warm the surface sounds. This is why the deep interior matters so much. In the end a person becomes and reveals whatever truly lives inside him, and the courteous words on top cannot hide it for long.

CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY
What a man says in daylight matters far less than what he privately intends, because the quiet contents of his heart are what he actually becomes. There is a kind of person whose generosity is all performance, offering hospitality with his mouth while begrudging you every bite, and the mismatch always eventually shows. You cannot hold a thought in secret and remain untouched by it, for the mind you feed in the dark is the self you are building.
So watch what a person guards rather than what he proclaims. And watch yourself, because the values you truly hold, not the ones you announce, are the ones shaping who you turn out to be.

CYBERNETICS
What a man believes about himself in the deep, quiet place below his words becomes the blueprint his whole life is built upon. His polite phrases may say one thing while his inner picture says another, and it is the inner picture that wins. You cannot act warmly while carrying a cold image of yourself, for the mind's automatic mechanism always works to make the outer man match the inner one.
Change the mental picture and the man changes with it. Tend the heart's image first, and the actions follow on their own.

SUFISM
Actions are only by intentions: the inner aim gives a deed its worth The Prophet's best known saying puts the weight of any deed on whatever moved it. Warm words carry the temperature of the heart behind them, and no polish on the outside changes that reading. A person can hand something over with both hands and still be giving nothing, because giving happens inside first.
Ikhlāṣ: Sincerity Al-Ghazali uses this for having one purpose, with no second one hiding behind it. An offer made whole keeps nothing in reserve, so the one making it is the same alone as in company. When a second purpose is running, usually keeping up appearances, the right words still come out while the person stays somewhere else.
Riyāʾ: Doing good so that people will see it Al-Ghazali called this the hidden fault, since it wears the shape of kindness. Someone watching themselves be generous is really watching the audience, and the act gets aimed at those eyes instead of at the one in front of them. Generosity done this way costs nothing inside, which is why it lands so thin on whoever receives it.
Bukhl: Stinginess Al-Ghazali describes the grip of a heart that has fastened itself to what it owns. Such a person can still say the generous thing, since words are cheap, while everything of value stays clamped down. The tightness shows up in small signs, mainly the running count of what is being used up, kept quietly while the kind sentence is spoken.
Firāsa: Insight that reads what is under the surface A saying of the Prophet tells people to beware the insight of the believer, who sees by the light of God. Being on the receiving end of a welcome with nothing behind it puts a person in an odd spot, where the words are correct and something still feels off. Sufi teachers treat that quiet unease as information, one heart picking up another, not as suspicion to be talked away.

SELF-HELP
What a person privately believes about having enough sets the state they run on, that state sets the feeling that meets whoever is in front of them, and the feeling decides what the hands do when giving actually costs something. Speech layers on afterward and changes none of it.
Reading a script instead of a state is how anyone ends up fed by someone who resents the meal. The tell is direction: fear of loss moves a man away from parting with anything faster than it moves him toward whoever sits across from him. Anyone trying to fix a closed life by improving the invitation spends years on sentences while the belief underneath keeps writing the outcome.
Christian Psychology lens
When your mouth and your heart disagree today, which one will you follow?
Words are for catching meaning. When you have the meaning, the words can be set down, and sometimes the words were never carrying it at all.
What is said is the surface of the water. The real current is underneath, and that is what reaches you.
All that we are begins in the mind. What a person is holding inside is what actually comes out, whatever the mouth arranges.
