Proverbs 24:9 Meaning The Schemes of Folly Are Sin

The schemes of folly are sin. The mocker is detested by men.

What does Proverbs 24:9 mean?

Every attack begins as a thought, and the only sin is the thought that separation is real, the small idea that the mind can gain by setting itself against another. Folly is nothing more sinister than that first turning away from love, and everything the ego builds rests on it.

The one who mocks becomes hateful to others because scorn is guilt turned outward, and a mind that condemns is only showing others the verdict it has already passed on itself. What repels them is their own accusation returning to them in another's face, until they are willing to see that the fault they feared was never real.

Scorner: the mind that has chosen the ego and flings its own guilt outward as contempt, meeting everywhere the condemnation it first pronounced on itself

  1. When you catch a flicker of contempt for someone, pause and ask what it is you cannot forgive in yourself. The answer is usually close by.
  2. Let go of the eye roll or the sarcastic aside at family dinner. The small cut is the whole thing in miniature.
  3. In a stressful line or a packed commute, when you start silently ranking the people around you, stop and let them just be people. It is lighter on you than on them.

What do I despise in other people that I am quietly afraid is true of me?

Everything starts in the mind. The action only carries out what the thought already decided.

To shame another person in public is treated as a grave harm, because contempt kills something in both people at once.
