CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

The mind is not made worthy; it is uncovered. The silver was always silver, and what the refining removes is no flaw in its nature but the dross laid over it, the false thoughts of guilt and fear that hid a purity never actually lost. Forgiveness is this taking away, not the adding of goodness to a sinful mind but the lifting of what only seemed to spoil it.

What comes forth is a vessel fit for use, a mind cleared to serve love because nothing false remains to obscure it. The whole work is subtraction, the quiet undoing of an error, and beneath every layer the ego painted on, the untouched worth was waiting to shine.

Dross: the false overlay of guilt and fear that seems to spoil the mind, the covering that hides a worth it cannot destroy. Silver: the mind's own purity, real and unharmed beneath every appearance of tarnish. Vessel: the mind uncovered and made ready to serve love, fit for use once the false is lifted away.

PSYCHOANALYSIS

Psychoanalysis

The refiner's work was, for a long line of thinkers, a picture of what happens inside a person who wants to grow. The silver is mixed with worthless matter, and the two must be separated by heat before anything fine can be made. The heat is the pressure of life itself, which forces hidden things to the surface.

Removing the dross means sorting through what you actually carry inside: seeing clearly which parts are base impulse and which are real worth, instead of leaving them fused in a confused lump. This sorting is slow and uncomfortable, because the fire that does it is usually suffering. But once the mix is separated, the good metal is finally free to be shaped into something of use.

  1. Take one belief you carry about being not good enough and ask where it came from. It is dust, not silver.
  2. When you catch yourself performing for someone, dialing up the version of you that you think they want, drop it mid-conversation and just be plain.
  3. In a hard moment at work, resist adding proof of your worth. Do the task well and leave the defending out of it.

What would be left of me if I stopped believing the worst things I say about myself?

The self is never stained by what covers it, the way smoke never changes the fire it hides.

The way forward is often removal, not addition. Take away what is false and what remains is already enough.
