Proverbs 26:22 Meaning The Words of a Whisperer Are

The words of a whisperer are as dainty morsels, they go down into the innermost parts.

What does Proverbs 26:22 mean?

The whispered accusation does its real work not in the ear but far inside, where the mind stores what it hears as if it were true and lets the borrowed grievance settle into the deepest place. Such words are called wounds because they are believed, and a mind wounds only itself by taking in a charge against a brother, since every accusation carried inward is one more weight of guilt pressed down where it will ache.

The injury is never really from the words; it is from the welcome given them. Refuse to swallow the tale and there is nothing to descend, and the innermost place stays clear of a wound that only agreement could have made.

Talebearer: the ego's voice passing guilt from mind to mind, the accuser whose only power is the belief its words are given Belly: the deep interior of the mind where what is believed sinks in, the hidden place a swallowed grievance settles and aches

  1. Think of a critical thing someone told you about another person. Try saying to yourself that you do not actually know if it is true, and feel how much lighter you are without the verdict.
  2. When a family member hands you their version of what a relative is really like, listen kindly and let it stop with you. Do not repeat it to the next person at the table, and do not hold it against them at dinner.
  3. After a tense email where someone questions your work, wait before replying. Answer only what was asked about the work, and leave out the sentence you were drafting about what kind of person they are.
