Proverbs 27:2 Meaning Let Another Man Praise You
Let another man praise you, and not your own mouth; a stranger, and not your own lips.

Proverbs 27:2 · World English Bible
Let another man praise you, and not your own mouth; a stranger, and not your own lips.
The ego is forever building a self out of its own applause, and the mouth that praises itself is that private workshop, propping up a worth it secretly fears it lacks. Self-praise is only strength counterfeited, a mind trying to prove alone what relationship alone can reveal.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY
The ego is forever building a self out of its own applause, and the mouth that praises itself is that private workshop, propping up a worth it secretly fears it lacks. Self-praise is only strength counterfeited, a mind trying to prove alone what relationship alone can reveal.
Worth seen in a brother's eyes, even a stranger's, comes nearer the truth, because it is received rather than seized. A mind that lets another see its goodness is learning that innocence is not something won and defended but something recognized together. Real value was never the ego's to declare, and it is safest where it need not be claimed.
Mouth: the ego's private workshop of self-praise, propping up a worth it fears it lacks. Stranger: the brother whose recognition, being received rather than seized, comes nearer the truth of one's value.

SUFISM
ʿUjb: Being pleased with yourself Al-Ghazali names this the quiet pleasure of thinking well of your own worth. It starts before anyone else is involved, when you go back over something you did and warm to it. Saying it out loud is only the overflow; the self-satisfaction was already there, sitting and waiting for a listener.
Riyāʾ: Doing good so that people see it Al-Ghazali sets this beside self-admiration: acting with one eye on who is watching. When you supply the praise yourself, you are handing people the version of you that you want them to keep. The good you did turns into a story you are managing, and the telling starts to matter more than the doing.
Do not claim purity for yourselves, God knows best who is mindful: the claim outruns your knowledge A line from the Quran that Sufi teachers come back to again and again. Nobody sees the whole of their own record: the motive underneath, the help that arrived, the luck that held. Praising yourself means signing off on accounts you have never been able to read all the way through.
Ikhlāṣ: Sincerity Al-Ghazali describes it as doing something for God alone, with nothing set aside for applause. A person who has it has already been paid, so the need to announce the deed quietly falls away. The urge to talk yourself up usually means the work still feels unpaid, and you are out collecting the rest.
Bury your existence in the ground of obscurity: what is not hidden first grows badly Ibn Ata Allah compares a person to a seed that has to go under the ground before anything comes of it. Whatever gets pushed into the open too early, before it has taken hold, comes up thin and does not last. Time spent unnoticed does its own work, sending roots down where nobody can watch them.
Christian Psychology lens
Who in your life sees your goodness better than you can argue for it?
The one who does not display themselves is seen clearly. Self-promotion is a kind of hiding, and quiet leaves room for others to recognize what is real.
He reminded himself that a good act needs no announcement, the way a vine does not boast of its grapes. Worth that has to be declared was never resting on anything solid.
The self we keep defending is built and rebuilt by our own praise of it. Let the building stop and what remains needs no defending.
