Proverbs 28:1 Meaning The Wicked Flee When No One Pursues
The wicked flee when no one pursues; but the righteous are as bold as a lion.

Proverbs 28:1 · World English Bible
The wicked flee when no one pursues; but the righteous are as bold as a lion.
Guilt invents a pursuer where there is none. A mind that secretly believes itself guilty must always feel chased, running from a punishment it expects around every corner, though nothing in the world is actually coming for it.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY
Guilt invents a pursuer where there is none. A mind that secretly believes itself guilty must always feel chased, running from a punishment it expects around every corner, though nothing in the world is actually coming for it. The threat it flees is its own hidden accusation thrown outward and given the shape of an enemy.
A mind that has accepted its innocence has nothing to run from and so stands still. Its boldness is not courage summoned against danger but the steadiness of one who has laid guilt down and found there was never anything to fear.
The wicked: the mind that holds itself guilty and so feels forever chased, fleeing a punishment it only imagines Lion: the mind at peace in its own innocence, standing unafraid because it has nothing to hide and nothing to run from

CYBERNETICS
A guilty self-image invents a chase where none exists. The man carrying it startles at footsteps that were never there, because the pursuer he runs from is the picture of himself he cannot outrun. His own mind supplies the enemy, and his legs obey.
The one at peace inside stands the way a lion stands, without bracing for attack, because nothing in his self-image tells him he is prey. Boldness of that sort grows from a settled question of who a person is, worked out long before any test arrives. It shows on the outside as ease. No phantom is left to flee from.
Christian Psychology lens
What have you been running from that was never actually behind you?
We suffer more in imagination than in reality. Most of what we flee never arrives.
The first arrow is what happens. The second arrow is the one we shoot into ourselves, and only that one makes us run.
Fear comes from having a self to protect. When there is nothing to defend, what is there to escape from?
