Proverbs 3:16 Meaning Length of Days Is in Her Right

Length of days is in her right hand. In her left hand are riches and honor.

What does Proverbs 3:16 mean?

What love holds out is offered freely and on every side, for the mind that turns toward the gentler teacher finds it lacks nothing it truly wanted. The hand of strength gives a life that does not end because it was never in danger, and the hand of tenderness gives an abundance that has no rival in it, a worth that need not be taken from anyone.

The ego bargains for length of days and grasps for wealth as though they were scarce, but here they are simply what a mind already possesses the moment it stops believing it is separate and poor.

Right hand: the mind's power of strength and giving, the loving direction that offers a life unthreatened because it was never truly at risk Left hand: the mind's power to receive and hold, the abundance and worth that love bestows without needing to be seized from another

CYBERNETICS

Wisdom here is a settled way of seeing oneself, and she carries her gifts in both hands rather than making a person grab for them. A life stretches out long and unhurried in one hand because a person who trusts the picture inside stops burning himself out on worry. In the other hand ride the outward goods, the means and the standing, and they come as the by-product of that steadiness.

The man who fixes on money or applause alone tends to lose both. They slip through fingers that clutch. When the inner image is calm and worthy, the outer rewards arrive almost sideways, drawn to a person who is no longer chasing them. Well-being sits at the center, and the plenty settles around it on its own.

Live Proverbs 3:16 today

  1. Do one thing today without rushing it, the shower, the walk to the car, one meal. The hurry is a quiet belief that time is running out on you.
  2. Hand someone credit, attention, or your full patience today without checking whether you can spare it. Giving from a steady place costs nothing and shows you how steady you are.
  3. When a deadline makes everything feel scarce, name what you are actually afraid of losing. Nine times in ten it is not the thing, it is the sense of being safe, and that was never on the line.

Where am I living as if there is not enough of my life to go around?

The same truth in other traditions

Tao Te Ching 50

The one who moves through life without clutching at it walks where harm finds no opening. Grasping is what makes a life feel fragile.

Stoicism · Marcus Aurelius

You can be generous without losing anything, because what you give from is not in short supply. The fear of running out is the only scarcity here.

Judaism · Pirkei Avot

Who is rich? The one who is content with what they have. Honor comes to the person who gives it away first.
