Proverbs 30:18 Meaning There Are Three Things Which Are Too

There are three things which are too amazing for me, four which I don’t understand:

What does Proverbs 30:18 mean?

A mind that admits it does not know has, without realizing it, begun to be healed, for the ego is the voice that must always understand, always judge, always hold the answer that keeps it in control. To stand before what is too wonderful and confess it cannot be grasped is to loosen that grip, and in the loosening a gentler teacher can be heard.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

A mind that admits it does not know has, without realizing it, begun to be healed, for the ego is the voice that must always understand, always judge, always hold the answer that keeps it in control. To stand before what is too wonderful and confess it cannot be grasped is to loosen that grip, and in the loosening a gentler teacher can be heard. Wonder is the opposite of judgment, an open hand where the ego kept a closed fist.

The things that pass understanding are not withheld from the mind. They are simply seen with love rather than measured with fear, and the not knowing becomes a doorway instead of a lack.

Live Proverbs 30:18 today

  1. Let one question you cannot settle stay open today instead of searching for an answer. Walk around with the not knowing and see that it does not hurt you.
  2. In a conversation where you would normally have an opinion ready, say "I actually do not know" and leave it there. Let the other person fill the space.
  3. When you are pressed for a confident answer you do not have, say what you know, say what you do not, and ask for time. Certainty you fake is the most expensive thing in the room.

What would change if I stopped needing to understand this before I could be at peace with it?

The deepest thing cannot be put into words, and the moment you name it you are holding something smaller. Live near it anyway.

Zen

A mind that already knows is a full cup, and nothing can be poured in. Beginner's mind is the only one that learns.

Socrates

He was called wise for one reason, that he knew he did not know. Everyone else was carrying answers they had never examined.
