CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

Within every mind two teachers speak, and this is the quieter one asking to be heard. Wisdom here is the voice of love, always present but easily drowned by the ego's louder case for fear. To attend is to make the inner choice to listen for the teacher that offers peace, and to bow the ear is the humility of a mind willing to be taught something other than its own frightened story.

Listening is itself the shift. A mind that turns toward the gentle voice has already begun to change teachers, and in that willingness the understanding it seeks is not learned from outside but remembered from within.

Son: the part of the mind still learning, the aspect open to being taught which teacher to follow. Ear: the mind's willingness to receive, its readiness to take in the voice of love rather than the voice of fear.

Live Proverbs 5:1 today

  1. Take ten minutes today with no podcast, no music, no phone. Walking, driving, washing up, it does not matter. Just let it be quiet enough to hear what is under the noise.
  2. In one conversation, ask a question and then say nothing for a bit longer than feels comfortable. People tell you the real thing in the pause.
  3. When someone criticises you today, before you defend yourself, assume for thirty seconds that there is something true in it. You can decide later. Just let it in first.

What have I been too sure of to actually hear?

In the beginner's mind there are many possibilities; in the expert's there are few. Listening starts where the certainty stops.

Sufism · Rumi

Silence is the language of the divine, and everything else is poor translation. Lower your voice and you start to hear it.

Taoism · Tao Te Ching

Empty yourself and stay still, and things reveal themselves. The teacher is already speaking; the room is just loud.
