Proverbs 5:5 Meaning Her Feet Go Down to Death

Her feet go down to death. Her steps lead straight to Sheol.

What does Proverbs 5:5 mean?

Follow the thought of separation to its end and it arrives where it always arrives, at the belief that the mind can be extinguished. The ego promises life and delivers only its opposite, because whatever is built on the idea of being apart from love must descend toward the fear that lives at its root.

Christian Psychology

Follow the thought of separation to its end and it arrives where it always arrives, at the belief that the mind can be extinguished. The ego promises life and delivers only its opposite, because whatever is built on the idea of being apart from love must descend toward the fear that lives at its root. Every step taken with fear as the teacher tightens the grip of guilt, and guilt is the only hell there is.

A mind can watch where a given thought is leading and see that this one leads down. That seeing is enough to stop walking.

Her feet: the direction a thought travels once fear is chosen to guide it, moving always toward loss. Hell: not a place of punishment but the mind's own guilt held close and believed to be real.

  1. Catch yourself three sentences into a late-night spiral about your own worth, and ask where this train of thought is actually going. Then get up and drink a glass of water.
  2. When a conversation starts sliding toward a place that always ends badly with the same person, be the one who steps off early. You already know the last stop.
  3. In a tense meeting, when you feel the slow slide from this went wrong to I am the problem, name the slide to yourself. Seeing the direction is enough to stand still.

Where is the thought I am following right now actually taking me?

Each thought leans on the one before it, and a chain begun in fear arrives at suffering not by accident but by its own logic. See the link forming and the chain stops there.

Deal with a thing while it is still small. A journey of a thousand miles is all first steps, and so is the way down.
