CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

What the ego's delay finally brings is felt as lack arriving from outside, sudden and armed, as though something took the mind's peace by force. But nothing came from elsewhere. The poverty is only the emptiness of a mind that kept refusing its own good, and the armed man is fear wearing the face of an outer attacker.

What looks like an enemy at the gate is the mind's long avoidance returning to be seen. The lack was never sent by the world, and the same mind that let it in can choose again and let it go.

One that travelleth: the sense of lack that seems to arrive from far off, the ego's poverty dressed as something coming from outside Armed man: fear given the shape of an outer attacker, the mind's own avoidance returning in the guise of a threat

Live Proverbs 6:11 today

  1. When that sinking feeling of not enough shows up today, maybe while scrolling, maybe looking at your bank app, stop and ask what actually just happened. Usually nothing happened. A thought arrived, and you believed it was news from outside.
  2. If someone today seems to be taking something from you, your time, your credit, your patience, try seeing the fear in it rather than the attack. Then answer the person, not the threat.
  3. In a tense moment at work, when it feels like something is being done to you, name quietly what you have been avoiding in that situation. The pressure usually turns out to be the avoidance coming back around.

What feels like it is happening to me that I quietly let in?

The same truth in other traditions

Dhammapada

It says we are made by our own minds, and the harm a person suffers most is the harm their own thinking prepared for them. No enemy does it so thoroughly.

Stoicism · Epictetus

He taught that nothing outside us wounds us. It is our judgment about the thing that arrives armed, and we are the ones who armed it.

Tao Te Ching

It says the one who knows enough is already rich. Poverty is not a shortage of things, it is a mind that has decided it is short.
