CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

When the mind fixed the high uncertainties above and braced the powerful sources below, the truth was already steady beneath both. Clouds are the changing weather of thought, the moods and doubts that drift and darken and pass. The strengthened fountains are the deep pressures of feeling, forces that seem too strong to hold. Both were set in place over a stillness that neither one governs.

A person can believe that the weather of the mind and the surge of feeling are the whole of who they are. They are not. They move across a surface. What holds firm underneath was established first, and it stays calm while the clouds shift and the springs press up.

Clouds: the drifting weather of thought, the passing moods and doubts that darken and clear on their own Fountains of the deep: the strong underground pressures of feeling, the forces that rise from below and seem impossible to contain

Live Proverbs 8:28 today

  1. When a mood lands on you this morning, heavy, flat, restless, name it as weather and give it twenty minutes instead of a verdict. It drifts, and you are what it drifts across.
  2. If someone close to you is in a dark mood, stay warm without climbing in with them. You can be the steady floor rather than more weather.
  3. When a surge of anger or dread hits mid-task, feel your feet, breathe out slowly, and let the pressure rise and pass without acting on it. What holds you up was there before the surge.

Can I let a feeling be strong today without letting it be me?

The same truth in other traditions

Tao Te Ching 16

Return to the root and find stillness. The ten thousand things rise and fall across it without ever disturbing it.

Buddhism · Thich Nhat Hanh

Feelings are weather passing through, and you are the sky, not the storm. The sky does not have to fight the clouds.

Stoicism · Marcus Aurelius

Withdraw into yourself, where a quiet is always available and nothing outside can follow. A person needs no other retreat than that one.
