Psalms 119:148 · World English Bible
My eyes stay open through the night watches, that I might meditate on your word.
Qiyām al-layl: Standing in prayer at night Staying awake for prayer at night is called qiyām al-layl. Sleep is the easy choice, and giving it up costs something a person feels the whole next day.
From the Sufism reading below.
The same verse, read by one tradition.

SUFISM
Qiyām al-layl: Standing in prayer at night Staying awake for prayer at night is called qiyām al-layl. Sleep is the easy choice, and giving it up costs something a person feels the whole next day. Because nobody else sees it happen, those hours end up belonging entirely to God.
In the last part of the night God draws near: why these hours are chosen A saying of the Prophet has God coming close during the final third of the night. By then the day's noise has drained out, and nothing is left to answer, fix, or manage. Someone awake that long stops arguing with everything and finally just listens.
Tadabbur: Going slowly through words until they open Tadabbur means moving through words slowly instead of getting through them. A line read in a hurry is simply finished; the same line, sat with for an hour, starts giving more. Nothing gets added to the words, only the reader has slowed down enough to catch what was already in them.
Dhikr: Remembrance Dhikr is the repeating of God's words and names. A mind left alone at night drifts straight back to whatever it is worried about, over and over. Repeating gives it somewhere else to land, and after enough hours the words keep running underneath everything else.
Uns: Ease in God's company Uns is the comfort that grows out of long company. The first nights awake feel empty and slow, closer to waiting for a bus than to being with anyone. Later the same hours feel like sitting with an old friend, where nobody needs to fill the silence, and the time a person once had to push through becomes the part of the day they want most.
Sufism lens
When was the last time I was awake and not managing anything?
Muddy water left alone becomes clear by itself. Stillness is not something you achieve, it is what shows up when you stop stirring.
He reminded himself that a person can step back into their own mind at any hour, and that no quieter retreat exists than that one.
In the deep quiet, when the senses have finally stopped reporting, what was always there becomes known.
