Psalms 119:156 Meaning Great Are Your Tender Mercies

Great are your tender mercies, Yahweh. Revive me according to your ordinances.

What does Psalms 119:156 mean?

To be quickened is to be made alive again, roused out of the half-sleep the anxious mind mistakes for living. Great are the tender mercies that reach a person there, gentle rather than harsh, meeting them exactly where they have gone numb.

Ego v. Being

To be quickened is to be made alive again, roused out of the half-sleep the anxious mind mistakes for living. Great are the tender mercies that reach a person there, gentle rather than harsh, meeting them exactly where they have gone numb.

The aliveness asked for is not a busier life but a deeper one, awake to the present moment instead of lost in thought about it. That waking comes as mercy, not as pressure. A person does not manufacture it. Life stirs again when they stop resisting what is already here.

Live Psalms 119:156 today

  1. Be easy on yourself about one thing today that you keep punishing yourself for. Nothing good in you ever came from that pressure.
  2. Speak gently to one person who is clearly going through the motions right now. You do not have to fix them, just be warm with them.
  3. When you are running on empty at the end of the day, stop trying to add one more task. Sit for three minutes and let the day settle in you.

Where are you pushing yourself when what you actually need is kindness?

Tao Te Ching

Water wears stone by softness, not force. What truly changes a person comes gently, and never by pressure.

Zen

Spring comes and the grass grows by itself. You do not manufacture your own waking, you stop blocking it.

Buddhism · Metta

Begin with kindness toward yourself, especially where you have gone numb. Harshness hardens a person, and warmth is what brings them back.
