As for me, I shall see your face in righteousness. I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with seeing your form.

EGO & BEING

Ego v. Being

There is a hunger the world can never fill, a satisfaction the outer self keeps seeking in things and never finding. It waits instead for a waking. Beneath the dream of thought there is a face, the formless presence at the root of who you are, and to behold it is to want nothing further.

The waking spoken of is not tomorrow morning. It is the shift out of identification with the restless mind into pure awareness, here, now. In that awareness you recognize your own likeness, the aliveness you always were beneath the story. And when you finally see it, the seeking stops, because what you were reaching for turns out to be the one who was reaching.

MANIFESTATION

Manifestation

The face beheld is a person's own perfected self, the being he is slowly becoming and will one day meet fully formed. God looks into every eye and sees only himself, small and reflected, waiting to be enlarged into the whole. That reflected self is the likeness spoken of, the human form made entirely of love that lies buried in each person and rises when he wakes.

To awake is to come out of the long dream of life into the recognition of who he has been all along. Satisfaction comes not from anything gained in the world but from seeing this finished self and knowing it as his own. Nothing outside supplies it. The perfected being he beholds at the end is the same being he was at the start, now recognized.

Live Psalms 17:15 today

  1. When you first wake up tomorrow, before you reach for your phone, lie still for one minute and feel that you are here. That bare sense of being awake is the thing itself, not a warm up for it.
  2. Look at someone you see every day, the barista, your partner, a coworker, and really see them for a second instead of the idea of them. The same aliveness is looking back.
  3. When you are deep in a stressful stretch and the story in your head is loud, step away for a moment and feel your hands. The one who is aware of all this noise is not caught in it.

What have you been looking for that was already doing the looking?

That which you have been searching for is what you already are. The seeker and the sought turn out to be one thing.

It is like riding an ox while looking for the ox. The waking is simply seeing what was carrying you all along.
