Psalms 22:20 Meaning Deliver My Soul From the Sword

Deliver my soul from the sword, my precious life from the power of the dog.

What does Psalms 22:20 mean?

The cry rises from the one buried inside you, the son asleep in the tomb of your own skull, asking to be brought up whole. His "darling" is his only-begotten, the single precious life he laid down within himself, to be lifted from the grave undamaged.

MANIFESTATION

Manifestation

The cry rises from the one buried inside you, the son asleep in the tomb of your own skull, asking to be brought up whole. His "darling" is his only-begotten, the single precious life he laid down within himself, to be lifted from the grave undamaged. These are the words spoken from the cross, so the man on the cross and the son in this psalm are one figure in one drama, not two.

The sword and the dog are the powers of the senses that seem to cut this inner life to pieces. The dog is the raw pull of the flesh, insisting the visible world is all there is. Deliverance is not rescue by an outside hand. The sleeper wakes within his own head and finds the life he thought lost was only sleeping. You rise knowing yourself to be the one you called on.

ESOTERIC

Esoteric

The soul cries to be pulled back from the sword, and the sword is the divided mind, the cutting reason that severs a person from the whole and leaves the inner life bleeding out through the split. The darling is the one precious thing, the singular seed of spirit held alone in the body, and it begs release from the power of the dog. The dog is the lower nature that runs in packs of craving, the animal appetite that hunts by scent and drags the higher self down into the ground of pure flesh.

The plea is the moment the buried self recognizes its own danger: it is being torn by thought and hunted by appetite at once. Deliverance is awareness rising to guard the one thing that cannot be replaced, the spark of consciousness that the sword would divide and the dog would devour.

Sword: the divided, cutting mind that severs a person from wholeness and bleeds the inner life Dog: the lower animal nature of craving and appetite that hunts the higher self and drags it into the flesh

  1. When your attention has been chewed up by hours of scrolling, put the phone in another room for twenty minutes and let your own mind come back. Something in you has been waiting for the quiet.
  2. Ask a friend today what they actually care about, not what they are working on, and listen long enough for the real answer to come up.
  3. In a tense moment when someone is pushing you to react fast, take one slow breath before answering. That pause is you choosing the deeper part of yourself over the loud part.

What part of you has been asleep lately, and what would it take to wake it?

The self is hidden in all things like fire latent in wood, unseen until it is drawn out. It was never absent, only covered over.

Every person already carries the awakened nature, the way gold stays gold inside the ore. Practice does not create it, it uncovers what the dirt was hiding.

What you seek is already inside you, nearer than your own breath. The search ends when the seeker stops looking outward.
