Psalms 28:7 Meaning Yahweh Is My Strength and My Shield

Yahweh is my strength and my shield. My heart has trusted in him, and I am helped. Therefore my heart greatly rejoices. With my song I will thank him.

What does Psalms 28:7 mean?

Trust is a relaxation, not a conclusion. Nobody arrives at it by weighing evidence; it happens the moment the constant defending stops, and then whatever comes is met without the trembling of a man who must carry his own protection everywhere.

Indian Guru

Trust is a relaxation, not a conclusion. Nobody arrives at it by weighing evidence; it happens the moment the constant defending stops, and then whatever comes is met without the trembling of a man who must carry his own protection everywhere.

The shield does not keep events away. Things still happen, but they happen at the surface, and the one who has settled behind the mind watches them arrive and pass without being torn. Singing comes afterward, and comes by itself. Gratitude that has to be produced is a performance, while the real thing overflows for no reason, because the heart has stopped its bargaining and nothing is missing.

  1. Find the place today where you are braced, jaw, shoulders, the breath you are holding, and let it down for a minute. Nothing bad happens.
  2. In a conversation where you usually defend yourself, try not defending once. Let the comment land and see what it actually costs.
  3. Under a deadline, stop guarding the outcome for sixty seconds. Do the work in front of you without carrying the whole result on your back.

What am I still guarding that was never actually under attack?

Tao Te Ching

The soft and yielding survive what the rigid cannot. Letting go of the defending is not weakness, it is what holds.

Stoicism · Marcus Aurelius

Things touch the soul only at the surface; the disturbance is in us. The storm hits the shore, not the sea floor.

Sufism · Rabia

She would worship with no eye on reward and no fear of punishment, for the beloved alone. Love that has stopped bargaining needs no payment.
