Psalms 30:3 Meaning Yahweh

Yahweh, you have brought up my soul from Sheol. You have kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit.

PSYCHOANALYSIS

Psychoanalysis

Sometimes a person sinks so low that a part of him seems to go down into the underworld and stay there. The life drains out of things, and it can feel as though the real self has been buried alive far beneath the surface. This is more than ordinary sadness. It is a true descent, and not everyone comes back from it whole.

Yet often something rises again from that depth on its own, without being ordered to, and the person is returned to daylight with his life restored. Being brought back up from that low place is not something managed by willpower. It happens to a person, and one day he simply finds himself alive and present again.

  1. On a flat, grey day, lower the bar to one small thing: a shower, a walk around the block, one text answered. You are not fixing yourself, you are staying alive until the turn comes.
  2. Tell one person it has been bad lately, plainly, without making it a joke. You do not need advice. Being seen is what keeps a person from going all the way down.
  3. When you are low and the work still needs doing, do the next five minutes and no more. Stop measuring your worth by how you feel, and keep showing up until daylight comes back on its own.

When you came back up the last time, how much of it was really your doing?

The year turns down into winter and back up into spring without anyone commanding it. A life has seasons like that, and the turn upward is not something you engineer.

Teachers speak of the great doubt, a stretch where everything goes flat and meaningless, and say the way through is to keep sitting. What comes after does not arrive because you forced it.
