Psalms 31:12 Meaning I Am Forgotten From Their Hearts Like

I am forgotten from their hearts like a dead man. I am like broken pottery.

What does Psalms 31:12 mean?

There are times when everything you took yourself to be seems to crumble. You feel forgotten, as if you had passed out of the world's mind, useless as a broken vessel.

Ego v. Being

There are times when everything you took yourself to be seems to crumble. You feel forgotten, as if you had passed out of the world's mind, useless as a broken vessel. The pain-body may feed on this, telling you that you are nothing now.

Yet notice who is aware of the brokenness. The vessel is the form you mistook for yourself, the roles and memories the mind gathers into a 'me.' When it cracks, something in you remains to feel the crack. That something is awareness, and awareness was never the vessel that broke.

  1. If you have been scrolling past everyone else's good news feeling like a leftover, close the app and sit for a minute with the simple fact that you are here, aware, before any of the labels.
  2. When someone asks what you do and you feel small saying it, answer plainly and let the small feeling pass through without arguing with it. You are not the job title either way.
  3. In the middle of being passed over, left off the thread, or told you are not needed, feel the sting and then ask quietly who is feeling it. The one aware of the hurt is not the part that got hurt.

If the part of you that broke is not all of you, who is left to feel the break?

Buddhism

What you call yourself is a bundle of changing parts, none of them the owner. Seeing that the bundle can come apart without you ending is the beginning of relief.

Bhagavad Gita 2

What is truly you was never born and does not break. Bodies and roles wear out like clothes, and the one who wears them is untouched.

Zen

The broken bowl is still held by the hands that hold it. Ask who is looking at the cracks, and the looking turns out to be whole.
