Psalms 32:11 Meaning Be Glad in Yahweh

Be glad in Yahweh, and rejoice, you righteous! Shout for joy, all you who are upright in heart!

What does Psalms 32:11 mean?

Joy is the natural state of a being, buried under the weight a man carries about himself. It does not have to be produced, only unburdened, and this shout of gladness comes right after such a man stops hiding what he has done.

AWARENESS

Indian Guru

Joy is the natural state of a being, buried under the weight a man carries about himself. It does not have to be produced, only unburdened, and this shout of gladness comes right after such a man stops hiding what he has done. The lightness in it is the lightness of a load set down.

Upright in heart means undivided, with nothing concealed from oneself and no second face kept in reserve. Whoever is in that condition has no reason left for misery, and celebration rises by itself, in noise and dance rather than in the long solemn face that has been mistaken for religion.

  1. Name to yourself the one thing you keep half admitting. Say it plainly in your head, no softening, and feel how much lighter honest is.
  2. Tell one person something true that you usually edit. Not a confession, just the unretouched version.
  3. In a room where you perform a version of yourself, drop the performance for one answer. Say the real thing in your own voice.

What am I carrying that I could simply stop hiding?

The same truth in other traditions

Zen

Nothing needs to be added, only put down. Joy is what is left when the carrying stops.

Kierkegaard

Purity of heart is to will one thing. The divided will is what exhausts a person, not the thing it hides.

Sufism · Hafiz

Hafiz sings the tavern over the solemn mosque, the cup over the long face. The gladness is the worship, not a reward for it.
