Psalms 32:3 Meaning When I Kept Silence

When I kept silence, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long.

What does Psalms 32:3 mean?

There is a silence that is not peace. It is the refusal to face what is here, the pressing down of pain so it will not be felt.

Ego v. Being

There is a silence that is not peace. It is the refusal to face what is here, the pressing down of pain so it will not be felt. And what is pushed away does not vanish. It roars underneath, aging the body, draining the life from within while the surface pretends all is well.

The suffering does not come from the pain itself but from the resistance to it, the long inner struggle against what already is. When you keep silent in this way, you carry the unfaced thing everywhere, and it wears you down. Release comes only when the buried thing is finally allowed into awareness, felt fully, and so at last set free.

  1. If there is a feeling you have been outrunning with your phone all week, put it down for five minutes tonight and let the feeling be there in your body without a story about it.
  2. Tell one person one true sentence about how you actually are, instead of the automatic fine. Nothing more is needed than the one sentence.
  3. When tension sits in your jaw or your chest during the workday, stop pretending it is not there. Take one breath, feel exactly where it is, and let it be felt rather than pressed down.

What have you been holding down so long you forgot you were holding it?

Zen

What you push underwater pushes back the whole time you hold it down. Let it surface and the struggle ends, not the breath.

Taoism

A stream dammed up swells and strains, while a stream allowed to run makes no noise about it. Resistance, not the water, does the damage.

Buddhism

Pain is one arrow. Refusing to feel it is the second arrow, and that is the one that keeps hurting.
