Psalms 44:21 · World English Bible
won’t God search this out? For he knows the secrets of the heart.
Sirr: The secret core of a person Sufis use this word for the layer under everything someone says, and under most of what they admit to themselves. When a person insists their loyalty has held, that layer is the only place the claim can be settled, and they cannot inspect it on their own.

SUFISM
Sirr: The secret core of a person Sufis use this word for the layer under everything someone says, and under most of what they admit to themselves. When a person insists their loyalty has held, that layer is the only place the claim can be settled, and they cannot inspect it on their own. Being known that far down is unnerving, and it also backs up a claim that no one else could ever check.
God knows what a person's soul whispers, and is closer to him than the vein in his neck: the knowing happens from inside The line comes from the Quran, and Sufis return to it constantly. It changes what being watched means, because the knowing is already inside the room where the thoughts are forming. For someone under pressure, arguing that they have stayed faithful, the defense was already heard before it was spoken.
Ikhlāṣ: Sincerity Al-Ghazali spends a long stretch of his Revival on this single word. He describes a motive with one strand in it, and he is honest that most of what people do carries two or three: some love of God, some love of being seen loving God. Anyone claiming they never turned aside is claiming this, and the claim means more when they know how mixed an ordinary day gets.
Riyā': Showing off in devotion The Prophet called this the smaller idolatry, because a second audience has quietly taken God's place. It hides well, since the actions look identical from outside and only the reason behind them has moved. A person defending their faithfulness has to face the chance that a strange god slipped in this way, without one visible act of disloyalty.
Murāqaba: Keeping watch, aware of being watched Sufi teachers treat this as a steady habit of attention that runs underneath ordinary work. A person living with it stops waiting to be searched out, because the searching and the living have folded into one thing. What follows is quieter than people expect: less scrambling to explain themselves, and less shock at whatever turns up inside.
Sufism lens
If the reason behind what you did today were visible, which part would you quietly want to edit?
Live as though the whole of your inner life were visible, because the only judge who matters is already inside the room.
The knower seated within the field sees it entire, and no account you give of yourself can get ahead of that seeing.
Know who is above you, know that you are heard, and know that everything you do is already being written down.
