Psalms 46:4 Meaning There Is a River

There is a river, the streams of which make the city of God glad, the holy place of the tents of the Most High.

What does Psalms 46:4 mean?

The river is the life current flowing up the center of the body, and its streams are the finer channels that branch from it into the whole being. Where that current runs freely it gladdens the city of God, the perfected inner state, and it fills the holy place, the innermost dwelling of the higher nature seated deep within a person.

The river is the life current flowing up the center of the body, and its streams are the finer channels that branch from it into the whole being. Where that current runs freely it gladdens the city of God, the perfected inner state, and it fills the holy place, the innermost dwelling of the higher nature seated deep within a person.

Gladness here is the felt rising of one's own life force through its channels. When the central current flows unblocked, the whole inner city is quickened and the deepest chamber of the self is inhabited by the highest.

Live Psalms 46:4 today

  1. Get up once in the middle of your morning, stand tall, stretch your spine and breathe all the way down, and let the stuck feeling move instead of sitting on it.
  2. Say the warm thing you were holding back to one person today, in a text or out loud. Held-in good will goes stale.
  3. When you feel yourself bracing against a hard hour, soften your belly and let your breath reach the bottom of it. What is running in you runs easier when you stop squeezing it.

Where in me is something good being held back instead of let through?

The water that is not dammed nourishes everything it passes, and it reaches the low places without effort. Blocked water goes stagnant and sour.

Hinduism · Yoga

The life breath, prana, moves up the center of the body, and the practice is clearing what blocks it rather than pushing harder.

Zen

The gladness people look for is not brought in from outside. It shows up when the clenching stops and things move freely again.
