Psalms 51:4 Meaning Against You

Against you, and you only, I have sinned, and done that which is evil in your sight, so you may be proved right when you speak, and justified when you judge.

What does Psalms 51:4 mean?

The one sinned against is I AM, a person's own awareness of being, and the confession that the wrong was against thee only means every failure is committed against oneself alone, since there is no other. David here is the servant brought to see this, and his sin is refusing to imagine good where he could have imagined it, holding a person or himself in a state he did not want.

MANIFESTATION

Manifestation

The one sinned against is I AM, a person's own awareness of being, and the confession that the wrong was against thee only means every failure is committed against oneself alone, since there is no other. David here is the servant brought to see this, and his sin is refusing to imagine good where he could have imagined it, holding a person or himself in a state he did not want.

So to repent is not to grieve but to change: a total turn of attitude, becoming another person inwardly. A person is the sum of what he believes, and whatever he meets is himself met again, so the correction is made within, by revising the inner picture. God is justified because the awareness that was misused is the same awareness that judges and speaks. What a person does against another he does against the one being he actually is.

  1. Think of one person you have been holding in a bad light inside your head. Picture them, just once, as the better version of themselves, and let that picture be the one you keep.
  2. When someone at home irritates you tonight, skip the correction and say something kind you actually mean. Not performance, just a different inner picture made audible.
  3. When you get the email that makes your jaw tighten, write the angry reply in your head, delete it, and then answer the person you would rather they be. That choice lands on you first.

Who am I still holding in a state I would hate to be held in myself?

Hatred held against another scorches the one holding it first. The harm done outward is first done inward, and it never stays outside.

To turn is not to sit in sorrow but to become a different person, so that the old deed no longer belongs to who you now are.

The Self in you is the Self in everyone. To wrong another is to wrong the single being wearing both faces.
