Psalms 55:15 · World English Bible
Let death come suddenly on them. Let them go down alive into Sheol. For wickedness is among them, in their dwelling.
Energy that refuses to rise is energy that sinks. The power meant to climb from the base of the spine to the pineal gland, when it is held down in appetite and fear, drops back into the lower mind and stays there alive, awake, and tormented in the very place it was meant to leave.

ESOTERIC
Energy that refuses to rise is energy that sinks. The power meant to climb from the base of the spine to the pineal gland, when it is held down in appetite and fear, drops back into the lower mind and stays there alive, awake, and tormented in the very place it was meant to leave. That descent into the carnal mind is what the old writers called going down quick into hell.
Hell here is the lower mind's own torment, and it spreads: a mind darkened this way infects the thoughts that dwell beside it, house by house within one person. Religious institutions invented a hell of fire to keep people afraid and dependent, but this torment is inward and present, and meditation is what draws the energy back up and heals it.
Death: the sinking and release of the inner life-force back down when it refuses to rise Hell: the lower carnal mind, awake and tormented in its own darkness
Esoteric lens
Where is my energy going around in circles, and what would let it move again?
The hungry ghosts have throats too narrow to swallow. Craving that only feeds itself becomes its own hell, and no outside punisher is needed.
The life force that rises through the spine brings clarity, and the same force held at the base turns heavy and restless. The energy is one thing; what differs is whether it climbs.
Water that cannot move goes stagnant and sour. Keep it flowing and it stays clear.
