Psalms 55:4 · World English Bible
My heart is severely pained within me. The terrors of death have fallen on me.
The pain here sits in the heart as the center of consciousness, the seat of awareness in the higher brain, not the pump in the chest. When awareness is dragged down toward the lower mind and the senses, it feels itself dying, and that dread is real and must be felt rather than pushed away.

ESOTERIC
The pain here sits in the heart as the center of consciousness, the seat of awareness in the higher brain, not the pump in the chest. When awareness is dragged down toward the lower mind and the senses, it feels itself dying, and that dread is real and must be felt rather than pushed away. Heaven and hell are present states of mind, and this is a soul passing through the hell of its own fear.
The terrors of death are the fear of losing the light, of the higher self going dark under the weight of the flesh. That fear is not punishment from outside; it is the crossing every person makes when consciousness is torn between what pulls it down and what calls it up. Felt honestly, the terror is the beginning of turning back toward the light.
Heart: the center of consciousness, the seat of awareness in the higher brain and not the physical pump Death: the felt fear of the higher self going dark under the pull of the lower mind

What feeling have I been outrunning, and what would it be like to sit down beside it instead?
Arjuna's limbs give way and his mouth goes dry on the field, and the teaching begins there, in the honest collapse, not after he has composed himself.
The way through great doubt is straight into it. A student who sits with the dread instead of fleeing it finds the dread was the door.
The wound is where the light gets in. Grief hollows a person out, and that hollow is what later holds something.
