Psalms 56:11 Meaning I Have Put My Trust in God

I have put my trust in God. I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?

What does Psalms 56:11 mean?

Fear of what another person can do lives entirely in the mental picture a man carries of himself. When the self rests its weight on something larger than any single threat, the goal-striving mechanism stops scanning the crowd for danger and steadies.

Cybernetics

Fear of what another person can do lives entirely in the mental picture a man carries of himself. When the self rests its weight on something larger than any single threat, the goal-striving mechanism stops scanning the crowd for danger and steadies. The trust comes first. The courage is only what follows once the deeper mind has somewhere solid to stand.

A man hemmed in by enemies still feels the walls, yet the walls no longer command him. He has moved the center of his safety inside, anchored in God rather than in the shifting moods of the people around him. What others might do stays possible. It simply loses its grip on him, because the image he holds of his own footing no longer depends on their approval or their power.

  2. In the group chat or at dinner, say the thing you actually think, kindly, even though one person there will not like it. You can let their reaction exist without letting it decide how you feel walking out.
  3. When a difficult colleague or a stranger in traffic tries to rattle you, let them be exactly as they are and keep your own pace. Their mood is weather, not a verdict on you.

Whose opinion are you treating as the ground under your feet?

Another person can take your job, your reputation, even your freedom, but not the place inside where you decide who you are. That ground is not theirs to stand on.

The one who is settled within does not need the crowd's approval to keep their footing. Rooted deep, they are not blown about by passing weather.
