Psalms 57:8 · World English Bible
Wake up, my glory! Wake up, lute and harp! I will wake up the dawn.
Awake. This is the oldest call of the spirit, and it is spoken to you now.

EGO & BEING
Awake. This is the oldest call of the spirit, and it is spoken to you now. Most human beings live as if asleep, lost in a continuous stream of thought, dreaming their way through a life they never fully meet.
To awaken is to become present, to feel yourself alive in this moment rather than trapped in memory and imagination. Your glory is the awareness that stirs when the dream of thinking loosens its hold. You do not need to wait for morning. You can awaken now, simply by becoming conscious of this breath, this moment, and the aliveness within you that was always here, waiting to be noticed.

ESOTERIC
The glory that must be roused is the dormant light seated in a person, the higher self asleep beneath the noise of ordinary living. Calling it to wake is the inner turning of consciousness back toward its own source, the moment awareness stops drifting and rises deliberately. The psaltery and harp are the strung nerves and the spinal column, the body played as an instrument once its cords are tuned to a finer vibration. To wake early is to catch the mind before the day's habits seize it, when the still current in the head can be met and lifted rather than lost.
What happens is simply this: a person deliberately turns attention inward and lifts the sleeping light before the mind fills with its usual traffic.
Glory: the dormant inner light and higher self, asleep in a person until awareness deliberately rouses it Psaltery and harp: the strung nerves and spinal cord, the body played as an instrument when its cords are tuned to a finer vibration

SELF-HELP
Nobody waits for a state to arrive and also gets to choose it; the command comes first, the feeling second.
Language assigns a state more often than it reports one, and an order given to yourself while nothing inside wants to comply is that lever at full strength. Hands on strings work the second lever at the same time, the body put through the motions of praise until the state follows the motion.
Rousing yourself before the light arrives puts a person ahead of his conditions, and a condition that meets a man already roused loses most of its power to dictate. Praise aimed at God gives that state a direction, and energy with nowhere to go burns off by noon. Treat a state as weather and the shape of a life goes to whatever woke up first inside.
Ego v. Being lens
How much of today have I actually been here for?
The whole of the practice is waking up, right here, with the dishes in your hands. Before enlightenment you carry water, after enlightenment you carry water, but now you are actually there for it.
Asked who he was, he answered simply that he was awake. Not holy, not chosen, awake.
The breeze at dawn has secrets to tell you, so do not go back to sleep. All night long the door has been standing open.
