CYBERNETICS
Waiting is not the same as doing nothing. A person holds the picture of what he wants and refuses to snatch at it before it is ready. The mind's goal-striving mechanism delivers on its own schedule, and impatient grabbing only jams the works. So the soul waits in a settled way, its eyes on the source rather than on its own frantic effort.
Rescue here comes from beyond the straining will, from the deeper working that a person cannot command by force. A man learns to wait the way a diver waits at the surface, poised and quiet, letting the moment arrive. He stays ready, not restless. What saves him is his steady expectancy, and that expectancy is itself the calm he was after.

SUFISM
Tawḥīd: God's oneness Oneness names a heart that has stopped dividing its hope. Under pressure, people spread their bets, and each bet takes a piece of the heart until it is pulled four directions at once. When hope gathers into one place, the pulling stops, and a person can stand still long enough to breathe.
Faqr: Poverty, owning nothing that can save you Poverty here means having no rescue of your own making. A person in danger takes stock of what they have: nerve, allies, a good argument, some time. Admitting that none of it is enough puts down the job of being your own rescue, and the strain of that job goes with it.
Tawakkul: Trust that leaves the outcome to God Al-Ghazali describes this trust as leaning your whole weight on one caretaker. Trust of this sort still leaves the ordinary work in your hands. Rehearsing outcomes half the night wears people out, and letting go of the result lets the mind go quiet while the trouble stands.
A delayed gift is no reason for despair: an answer can be late and still come Ibn Ata Allah wrote that line for people worn out from asking. When help does not arrive on schedule, the mind builds a case: nobody is listening, the asking was wasted. That case rests on a clock and nothing else, and holding a delay as a delay keeps a person from walking away early.
In the remembrance of God hearts find rest: quiet comes from one place The Quran puts resting and remembering in the same breath. Worried people try to think their way to calm, turning the problem over until it wears smooth, and the turning keeps them awake. Bringing attention back to God, even briefly, breaks the loop, and the body settles before anything about the situation has changed.
Cybernetics lens
Where are you grabbing at something that would come to you if you let it?
Muddy water clears when it is left alone. Stirring it to hurry the process only keeps it cloudy longer.
Sitting quietly, doing nothing, spring comes and the grass grows by itself. The waiting is not idleness. It is letting something work that your hands cannot force.
Do the work in front of you and release your claim on when the fruit arrives. The grabbing is what exhausts you, not the task.
