Psalms 62:12 Meaning Also to You

Also to you, Lord, belongs loving kindness, for you reward every man according to his work.

What does Psalms 62:12 mean?

Mettā: Loving Kindness Mettā is the warm wish for another's welfare. Loving kindness sitting in the same breath as strict reckoning works like a parent who loves a child and still lets that child learn what a hot stove does.

Mettā: Loving Kindness Mettā is the warm wish for another's welfare. Loving kindness sitting in the same breath as strict reckoning works like a parent who loves a child and still lets that child learn what a hot stove does. The care holds steady while the burn teaches, and both come from the one rock a soul waits on in silence.

Kamma: Action Kamma is doing that carries weight forward. Reward "according to his work" makes the doing itself the measure, so what a person plants in deed and word is what stands in the field at harvest. No wage is handed down from elsewhere; the crop is their own sowing come up.

Cetanā: Intention Cetanā is the willing behind a deed. Everything rests on it, since two people can hand over the same coin, one to lift a neighbor and one to buy his silence, and the work looks identical from the road. Reckoning by work is reckoning by this, the aim inside the hand, which is why the account cannot be dressed up.

Vipāka: Ripening Vipāka is the result an action bears. Reward arrives the way fruit arrives, in its own season and after its own kind, so an apple seed never repays the planter with figs. Waiting in silence while others bless with the mouth and curse inwardly is simply fruit still green on the branch.

Kammassakatā: Ownership of One's Deeds Kammassakatā holds each person as owner and heir of what they do. "Every man" comes to the scale one at a time, nobody lost in the crowd, the low degree and the high degree weighed by the same balance. Deeds follow a person like their shadow, and no increase of riches set beside them shifts the weight.

Live Psalms 62:12 today

  1. Pick one thing on your list today and ask honestly why you are doing it. If the answer is to be seen doing it, do it anyway, quietly, and let no one know.
  2. Do something kind for one person today in a way that cannot be credited back to you. No mention, no photo, no follow-up.
  3. When you are tempted to cut a corner because nobody would catch it, the expense line, the half-read document, the small lie that smooths a meeting, remember the work itself is the record.

If no one ever found out what you did today, would you still do it the same way?

The net of heaven is wide and nothing slips through it. No one needs to settle the account by hand.

Hinduism · Bhagavad Gita

Act for the sake of the act itself and leave the fruit alone. What ripens comes from the intention inside the hand, not from the show it made.

Stoicism · Marcus Aurelius

Ask why you are doing the thing, not how it looks. The motive is the deed; the rest is appearance.
