Psalms 66:12 Meaning You Allowed Men to Ride Over

You allowed men to ride over our heads. We went through fire and through water, but you brought us to the place of abundance.

What does Psalms 66:12 mean?

The hard passage is the road into the wider place, not the toll a person pays before reaching it. The meaning assigned to a hard stretch sets the state a person meets it in, the state sets the emotion, and the emotion decides whether they keep walking or sit down in the middle of the water.

The hard passage is the road into the wider place, not the toll a person pays before reaching it.

The meaning assigned to a hard stretch sets the state a person meets it in, the state sets the emotion, and the emotion decides whether they keep walking or sit down in the middle of the water.

Two people ridden over the same way split on the meaning. One takes it as evidence that life is being done to them, and that reading produces collapse, and collapse produces the actions of someone who has already quit. The other takes the fire as the route God is walking them through rather than a detour from what was promised, and that is what lets the pain build something. A person who takes the first reading walks through identical water and arrives with nothing but the damage.

Live Psalms 66:12 today

  1. Take the hardest thing in your life right now and finish this sentence honestly on paper: I think this is happening because. Then ask whether that reading is making you walk or sit down.
  2. Ask someone who has been through a long stretch of difficulty what they came out with. Listen for what the hard years built in them instead of only what they cost.
  3. When today goes sideways, traffic, a bad call, a late night at work, say to yourself that you are being walked through this rather than left in it, and then take the very next small step you can see.

What are you calling a detour that might be the road?

Nothing in the world is softer than water, yet nothing is better at wearing down what is hard. Yielding to the current is not defeat, it is how the soft thing gets through.

He says the impediment to action advances action, that what blocks the road becomes the road. Fire does not interrupt a flame, it feeds it.
