Psalms 67:1 · World English Bible
May God be merciful to us, bless us, and cause his face to shine on us.
The prayer asks for a shining face, and the danger hidden in every prayer is wanting the gift while ignoring the Giver, treating blessing like a wage owed. The cure is to keep asking for the face itself, not just the favors, to love the light more than the warmth it brings.
