Psalms 68:8 Meaning The Earth Trembled

The earth trembled. The sky also poured down rain at the presence of the God of Sinai— at the presence of God, the God of Israel.

What does Psalms 68:8 mean?

When true Presence arises, the solid world of form is shaken. Mountains that seemed permanent, the very ground you stand on, reveal themselves as passing shapes within something far vaster.

Ego v. Being

When true Presence arises, the solid world of form is shaken. Mountains that seemed permanent, the very ground you stand on, reveal themselves as passing shapes within something far vaster. What felt fixed trembles, because Presence is the reality out of which all form comes and goes.

You know this in small moments. When you grow intensely still, your problems, your history, the whole heavy structure of who you thought you were, loses its solidity. Nothing outside has changed. You are simply meeting this moment from awareness rather than thought, and from there even the solid world is felt as something passing, held within a presence that itself does not move.

  1. When a worry feels absolutely solid, like a wall you will never get past, go stand outside for two minutes without your phone. See if the wall is still quite as thick when you are breathing open air.
  2. The next time someone describes their life as fixed and hopeless, do not argue with them. Just be very calm and present with them, and let your steadiness say what words cannot.
  3. When the pressure spikes at work and your identity feels on the line, feel your feet and your breath for three seconds before you speak. Meet the thing from there and watch how much smaller it gets.

What in my life looks permanent today that will not be here in ten years?

Buddhism · impermanence

Everything that appears is already on its way out, mountains included, and only the clear seeing of it stays. Holding tight to shapes is what hurts.

Tao Te Ching

The nameless source came before heaven and earth, and all the solid things we trust rose out of it. Trace anything back far enough and you find the open ground it came from.

The witness is not among the things witnessed. All forms shake and pass, and the awareness they appear in does not move.
