Psalms 69:9 Meaning For the Zeal of Your House Consumes

For the zeal of your house consumes me. The reproaches of those who reproach you have fallen on me.

What does Psalms 69:9 mean?

The house that eats a man up is his own inner state, the state of consciousness he lives inside, and the burning consumes him because he is wholly given over to it. This is the same cry heard on the cross, for the man dying there and the psalmist speaking here are one drama played out in every person, and the words belong to the imagination undergoing its ordeal.

MANIFESTATION

Manifestation

The house that eats a man up is his own inner state, the state of consciousness he lives inside, and the burning consumes him because he is wholly given over to it. This is the same cry heard on the cross, for the man dying there and the psalmist speaking here are one drama played out in every person, and the words belong to the imagination undergoing its ordeal.

The reproaches are not insults from strangers. Whatever a person holds against another comes back and lands on himself, because the world outside only returns the conversation he has been carrying within. Right thinking toward what he wants is the only cure, and the old bitter talk running under his breath has to be put off before the new can be put on. In plain words, the mood you keep inside becomes the life you meet outside, and no one is doing it to you but you.

  1. Catch the grudge you have been rehearsing under your breath and stop it mid sentence. Replace it with the thought you would want coming back to you.
  2. When someone cuts you off in traffic or jumps the grocery line, let the insult go unsaid inside as well as out. Keeping it inside is the part that costs you.
  3. Under pressure, when the blame starts flying in a thread or a meeting, do not add yours. Ask quietly what mood you want to be living in by tonight, and keep that one.

What have I been saying inside about someone, and would I want to meet that back?

He wronged me, he insulted me: in whoever keeps turning such thoughts over, the hatred never settles. Lay the thought down and the burning stops with it.

No one truly harms you except your own judgment about what happened. Remove that judgment and the injury goes with it.
