CYBERNETICS

Cybernetics

A man carries a rank he did not award himself. Something in his making set him just under the highest order, and the crown was placed before he ever earned it. That crown is the picture of worth stamped on him at the start, not a prize handed out for good behavior.

Most people walk around as though the coronation never happened. They feel small, ordinary, overlooked, and the feeling seems like plain fact. Yet the glory and honour were fixed in the design, waiting to be believed. When a person stops arguing with the worth already given to him, he begins to move like someone who belongs to it.

The last word is not a compliment. It describes the ceiling a person lives under once the low self-picture drops away.

Live Psalms 8:5 today

  1. Walk past a mirror today without the small running critique. You are not auditioning for a worth you already have, so just look and keep going.
  2. Tell one person something true about who they are, not what they did for you. People spend years waiting to hear the thing you could say in a sentence at lunch.
  3. In the meeting where you usually shrink, sit up and say the thing you were going to swallow. You are not asking permission to be in the room.

If the worth was already given to you, what have you been arguing with all this time?

The same truth in other traditions

Hinduism · Chandogya Upanishad

The self you are looking for is already what you are, closer than anything you could achieve. "That thou art" is a statement of fact, not a goal.

Stoicism · Epictetus

You carry something of the divine within you, so stop speaking of yourself as a worthless thing. Behave like someone of that lineage and the behavior follows the knowledge.

Judaism · Mishnah Sanhedrin

Each person is stamped with an irreplaceable worth, and one life is spoken of as a whole world. The value was set at the making, not earned later.
