Revelation 10:1 Meaning I Saw a Mighty Angel Coming Down

I saw a mighty angel coming down out of the sky, clothed with a cloud. A rainbow was on his head. His face was like the sun, and his feet like pillars of fire.

This figure does not come down from the outer sky. It rises from the deep, shared layer of the mind, made from all that the waking self has pushed away.

PSYCHOANALYSIS

Psychoanalysis

This figure does not come down from the outer sky. It rises from the deep, shared layer of the mind, made from all that the waking self has pushed away. Its cloud means we cannot yet bear its full light. The rainbow on its head draws every color into one band, the sign of a mind that has joined its opposites.

Its face burns like the sun, our daylight awareness, and its feet stand in fire, the raw heat of instinct we push down. Both belong to one body. Met in a dream, it is the mind showing a person that their scattered parts can grow into one whole self.

  1. Name one thing about yourself you are proud of and one you keep hidden. Hold them in mind at the same time for a minute, without deciding which one is the real you.
  2. With a friend today, let yourself be both: the competent one and the one who is struggling. Do not perform just the half that is easier to show.
  3. When anger rises in a meeting or in traffic, do not swallow it and do not throw it. Feel the heat of it, then speak in a steady voice. That heat is yours and it belongs to you.

Which part of yourself do you keep offstage, and what would it cost to let it be seen?

The way holds both the bright and the dark, the high and the low, and does not choose between them. Wholeness comes from carrying both.

The self you are looking for is not the polite surface, nor the hidden depth, but the one in whom both are gathered.
